United Kingdom ScholarshipsOhio State selects its nominees for Scholarships to the United Kingdom each spring. Applications to be considered for Ohio State's nomination for these UK Awards are due by 5pm on Monday, April 16th. Through this process, we will select nominees for the Rhodes Scholarship and Marshall Scholarship. We may also identify students for other UK awards, such as the Churchill Scholarship, Mitchell Scholarship, and Gates Cambridge Scholarship. These awards have later nomination deadlines, and interested students should contact the Undergraduate Fellowship Office. About the Application Process Students MUST be nominated by their undergraduate institution in order to apply for the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships. You may not apply directly to the Rhodes or Marshall foundation. The Ohio State University is currently taking applications to compete for these nominations. The OSU applications are due on Monday, April 16th, 2012. At this time, a panel of faculty and distinguished scholars will convene to review all applications. The panel will conduct interviews with a select number of applicants. OSU will announce our nominees for the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships in late May. The nominees will then work with faculty and staff to create a competitive application for the national Rhodes & Marshall deadlines in October 2012. Interested in applying? Eligibility Criteria To compete for the Rhodes and/or Marshall scholarships, students must meet the following criteria: ▪ Be a US citizen* *Rhodes Scholarships are available for some foreign citizens through their home countries. Please contact the Undergraduate Fellowship Office for more information. In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria, competitive applicants will have demonstrated significant leadership, service, research, and academic achievements. About the Rhodes Scholarship Each year, the Rhodes Trust awards 32 scholarships to US students. Rhodes Scholars are funded for two years of study at the University of Oxford, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. Proven intellectual ability and academic achievement of a high standard are the first qualities required of Rhodes applicants, but they will also be required to show integrity of character, interest in and respect for their fellow beings, the ability to lead, and the energy to use their talents to the full. Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. At least forty Scholars are selected each year ot study either at the graduate or occasionally undergraduate level at a UK institution in any field of study. Each scholarship is held for two years. Scholars display distinction of intellect and character as evidenced both by their scholastic attainments and by their other activities and achievements. Preference will be given to candidates who display a potential to make a significant contribution to their own society. Selectors will also look for strong motivation and seriousness of purpose, including the presentation of a specific and realistic academic program.
